With Silksong's Release, This 10-Year-Old Reddit Post Has Aged Like Milk

With Hollow Knight: Silksong finally releasing today, fans may be tempted to look back to the release of the original game that started it all, Hollow Knight. But, though the game is now known to be a beloved classic, this wasn't always the case.

Ten years ago, Reddit user crazy_loop shared a trailer for Hollow Knight, writing that their best friend quit his job to work on the game. The post now has over 26,000 likes, and some of the comments are positive and encouraging. Many other responses, though, have aged terribly. Detractors took to the comments to discourage Team Cherry from working on yet another side-scrolling game in an oversaturated market.

The success of Hollow Knight has become an inspirational story. The Metroidvania was released on February 24, 2017, by a team made up of three core members and following a successful Kickstarted backed by a modest 2,158 people. In the years since, the game has become one of the most beloved titles of all time, selling over 15 million copies, according to Radio Times.
