A reputable insider has hinted that the next mainline God of War game could use Egyptian mythology as its backdrop. In the near-three years since God of War Ragnarok released and capped off the franchise's Norse saga, fans have been wondering where Kratos' story will pick up.

One of the most beloved aspects of God of War games is the way they adapt existing mythologies and mold great stories involving Kratos — and now his son Atreus — out of them. God of War fans have a laundry list of mythologies that they'd like for developer Santa Monica Studio to take on, but the studio can only go one at a time. However, with God of War Ragnarok having concluded Kratos' tenure in the Norse lands, the time is ripe for the next mainline franchise entry to take on a brand-new setting.

Speculation has been rife, but Egypt remains at the forefront of mythology requests from God of War fans.
