The latest entry in Techland's hit zombie series, Dying Light: The Beast, has set a big first for the franchise, as it has now become the best-reviewed mainline entry to date. Dying Light: The Beast was released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 18 after a short delay, and reviews from critics quickly began to roll in alongside its release. After a controversial second entry, reviewers made it abundantly clear that Dying Light: The Beast is a return to form for the series.

After finding huge success with Dead Island in 2011, Techland took things to another level with the launch of the original Dying Light just four years later. While the long-delayed Dead Island 2 would go on to be developed by Dambuster Studios, Techland continued its work on the smash hit Dying Light series. Although it has a higher Metacritic score than its predecessor, Dying Light 2 received a mixed response from players. The sequel expanded on the series' fantastic parkour mechanics and combat system, but fans often criticize its storytelling, repetitive side quests, and poor voice acting.
