According to Variety, the series will be based on an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers behind the Deadpool films. Michael Jonathan Smith, who wrote and produced "Cobra Kai," will be writing and executive producing the series. Both Reese and Wernick are attached to executive produce the series. Will Arnett will executive produce through his Electric Avenue production company along with Marc Forman and Peter Principato of Artists First. Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions will also produce along with PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst.

"'Twisted Metal' is one of the most beloved franchises from PlayStation," stated Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions. "We are thrilled to have such a great team working on bringing this iconic game to life for the fans."

"We love Twisted Metal in all its twisted insanity," stated Glenn Adilman, executive vice president of comedy development for Sony Pictures Television. "Michael Jonathan Smith hit it out of the park with an action-packed, brilliantly funny adaptation and we are grateful for the support of Rhett, Paul, Will, and our friends at PlayStation."

The Twisted Metal series will a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life. However, he can only reach this better life if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the aid of a trigger-happy car thief, he will face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction, as well as dangers on the open world. This includes a deranged clown who drives an ice cream truck, whom fans may recognize as Sweet Tooth.

There is no word on when we can expect the Twisted Metal series to release.
