Whether we like it or not, we live in a world where game developers and publishers LOVE to crank out remasters and remakes of classic or cult-classic titles so that fans can bank on the nostalgia or “recreate magic from the past.” When it works well, we’re grateful. When it doesn’t? Then we see it as a cash grab. Square Enix has been doing plenty of remakes recently, including with the original Dragon Quest trilogy, and, of course, the Final Fantasy VII Remake Saga. However, fans have seen what these have done and want a Final Fantasy VI remake to happen sooner rather than later.
Enter the director of said remake saga, Naoki Hamaguchi, who has been talking a lot about the upcoming ports of the first entry to the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox platforms. When asked by Windows Central what game he’d like to remake next, his answer was pretty clear:
