Remakes for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are on the way.

During Nintendo's latest Pokémon Presents event, it was announced that Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are receiving remakes. Entitled Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the remakes will release for the Nintendo Switch later this year. The game's are not being developed by Game Freak, but are instead being worked on by ILCA, Inc., the studio behind Pokémon Home. ILCA's Yuichi Ueda and Game Freak's Junichi Masuda, the director of the original Diamond and Pearl, will be directing the remakes.

During the trailer for the game, the art style that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be using was revealed. When in the overworld, characters will feature a chibi-style look, similar to what we saw in the originals. However, once players go into battle, characters will have more realistic proportions, similar to what was seen in Pokémon Sword and Shield.  According to Nintendo, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be faithful remakes of the original games. The original story has been faithfully reproduced, and the sense of scale in the original game's towns and routes have been preserved. However, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will feature the player-friendly conveniences that we have seen in recent titles.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were originally released back in 2007. The games were released on the Nintendo DS, and featured 3-D graphics. They also featured a realistic night and day cycle, with certain Pokémon appearing depending on when gamers were playing the titles. Diamond and Pearl took advantage of the DS' dual screens, allowing players to control segments of the games through the handheld's bottom screen. It is unknown how Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will change the controls for the Switch.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will release for the Nintendo Switch later this year. The latest entries in the series, Pokémon Sword and Shield, are available for the Switch.
