Roblox Shuts Down Gray-Area Games Over Child Safety Concerns

Roblox has disabled all unrated experiences on its platform. The suspension of gray-area games is the latest step in Roblox's efforts to improve child safety within its ecosystem.

In early September 2025, Roblox announced a push to standardize its age ratings through a partnership with the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC). The move aims to give parents easier access to clear information about the appropriate age for each experience on the platform. Ahead of the announcement, Roblox Corporation said it would disable all unrated experiences, a step likely intended to align with the goals of the IARC partnership.

The new policy on gray-area games was implemented on Tuesday, September 30. It constitutes a comprehensive crackdown, preventing experiences without a maturity label from being played or even discovered. Up until now, Roblox was allowing users to access unrated games after confirming they were 13 or older.

While Roblox Corporation now employs a zero-tolerance policy for unrated games, its crackdown is not a purge, as none of the experiences lacking a maturity label have been deleted.
