Gamers will be able to dust off their old Diablo 2 save files when Diablo 2: Resurrected releases.

It has been revealed that old save files from the original Diablo 2 will be compatible with Diablo 2: Resurrected. In an interview with IGN Middle East, producer Matthew Cederquist confirmed the fact that players will be able to bust out their old save files from the original version of Diablo 2 when Resurrected releases.

"Back when we were working on [the remaster], we wondered if the old save files would work and we kind of shoved it in and it worked!" Cederquist told IGN Middle East. "And we were like, 'okay, that's the best feature ever.'"

The news that old Diablo 2 save files will work with Resurrected comes soon after it was announced that the remaster will have two alpha tests before it releases later this year. In an interview, lead producer Chris Lena announced the alphas, and gave a few details. The first alpha will focus on the single-player aspect of the remaster, while the second will focus on multiplayer and stress testing. Lena did mention that the development team behind Resurrected will be open to things such as balance changes to help keep the title vibrant for the modern era of gaming. Gamers can sign up for the alpha at the official Diablo 2: Resurrected website

Diablo 2: Resurrected was announced last month. It will touch up on the original, supporting features such as 4K gaming on PC. There will be changes and enhancements to the game, including how the Stash works. The personal Stash has gone from a 6x8 grid to a 10x10 grid. There will be a shared Stash tab for all of the characters on a single account, as well as the ability to transfer items between these characters much easier. Resurrected will also feature cooperative gameplay, allowing up to eight players to take on the game together. It is unknown at this time on whether or not there will be cross-platform play.

Diablo 2: Resurrected will release for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Nintendo Switch sometime this year.
