On September 30, Final Fantasy 14 released new cosmetic items on its Online Store to commemorate the long-awaited launch of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. However, the new items drew concerns from Final Fantasy 14 players, with some pointing out that the combined cost was more than Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles was at launch.
Set in the war-ravaged land of Ivalice, Final Fantasy Tactics originally launched on the PlayStation in 1997, and the basis of its story is the conflict known as the War of the Lions. The war pitted characters like Ramza Beoulve and Delita Heiral against one another as part of a larger conspiracy. Although FF Tactics received a PSP-exclusive port, subtitled The War of the Lions, the game was absent from modern platforms until 2025. The Ivalice Chronicles includes both the Classic PlayStation version, which includes an updated translation, and an Enhanced Edition that includes voice acting along with various quality-of-life changes.
