Silver Rain Games is a brand new studio founded by actor Abubakar Salim and whatever the team's first game is to be, it's already made an impression on one of the world's biggest games publishers. EA has signed Silver Rain Games to a publishing agreement that will see the upstart studio's debut title, a currently unannounced "thought-provoking" game, in the future.
Salim is perhaps most famous for his starring role in Assassin's Creed Origins, where he played protagonist Bayek in what was the first game to reimagine the series as an open-world action-RPG. He also recently starred in HBO's Raised By Wolves. His studio, Silver Rain Games, was established in 2019. The team was created "with the intent to generate thought-provoking and innovative games and content across different mediums of entertainment." Today over 20 remote employees are working at the studio.
“In what has been a challenging year, we have assembled an extraordinarily creative and worldly team who are eager to work on projects that bring their global perspectives to life. Together we will construct an exciting universe that unlocks the power of storytelling and the brilliance that brings,” said Salim. "We couldn’t be happier to work with the EA Originals team, who are phenomenal partners for us as we begin this journey. Not only does each of them understand our vision to inspire and entertain, but they also welcome this exciting new age of game development.”
The game isn't ready to be revealed today, though with the publisher's next earnings call coming on May 11, we may be just a few weeks away from learning more. EA quite often reveals projects to the public on the same day or very near earnings calls.
EA Originals kicked off with Fe in 2016, though it was 2015's Unravel which unofficially acted as the debut for EA's program where the massive publisher tries to lift up indie projects that the team believes in. Other games to have arrived via EA Originals in recent years are A Way Out, Rocket Arena, and Sea of Solitude. This year, EA will also publish Knockout City and It Takes Two under its Originals banner.
