Hideki Kamiya Discusses How Game Mechanics Drive The Titles He Makes

If we’re being honest here, there are plenty of video game developers who are fine with doing “the bare minimum” in making a good game and not doing much to “spice things up” to keep players engaged. For those devs, it’s about the “money made from the games,” not the “game’s quality” that matters most. However, in the case of Hideki Kamiya, he’s never been that way. He helped make Platinum Games so that he could make the unique titles he wanted. Then, when the developer moved away from that vision, he left and made a new group called Clovers.

In a new interview from Famitsu, Hideki Kamiya was asked about the games he makes, and he noted, as outlined by Stealth on Twitter, that for him, he wants to make video games that have special game mechanics that are only in his titles, and not others, giving two special examples of that kind of thought process:
