Microsoft Addresses Halo's Future

Microsoft has recently confirmed that future Halo games will be available on PlayStation consoles. Microsoft’s recent pivot to a multiplatform approach has been controversial, and taking Halo to the PlayStation 5 is possibly one of the most surprising moves made by the company so far.

Halo is arguably Xbox’s most iconic franchise. Ever since Halo: Combat Evolved was released for the original Xbox in 2001, the idea of the franchise moving to PlayStation would have been unthinkable. However, with Halo: Campaign Evolved announced for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, it seems that this will no longer be true in the future.

Halo Studios community director Brian Jarrard has recently appeared on stage at the Halo World Championships and confirmed that “Halo is on PlayStation going forward.” According to Jarrard, this is a “huge deal,” and the team is excited to welcome even more players in this “new era” for the franchise. While this decision will certainly be controversial, it’s not entirely surprising considering Xbox’s recent approach. Earlier this month, for example, Xbox president Sarah Bond said that exclusives are “antiquated for most people,” hinting that Microsoft is probably going to take even more exclusives to other platforms soon....
