A beta for the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy XIV will be held soon.

On the Final Fantasy XIV website, the starting date for the game's PlayStation 5 open beta was revealed. PlayStation 5 gamers will be able to try out the game beginning on April 13th. The beta test will launch alongside the release of Patch 5.5. Those who are currently playing on the PlayStation 4 will be able to use their existing characters and game data during the open beta test. The PlayStation 5 version of the game will make use of the system's features, and will feature fast loading times, increased frame rates, true 4K resolution, 3D audio, and haptic feedback.

Those who own the physical PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV can participate in the beta by heading over to the PlayStation Store and downloading the "FINAL FANTASY XIV PS5 Upgrade Edition (Beta Version)". A game disc is not required when playing this version of the game. Those who own the digital PlayStation 4 edition of the game can download the game from their Game Library menu. Finally, PlayStation 5 owners who have never played Final Fantasy XIV can download the "FINAL FANTASY XIV Free Trial" from the PlayStation Store.

The timing of the start of official service for the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy XIV will be determined based on the progress of the open beta, and will begin immediately after the end of the beta. All game data from the game's open beta will be transferred to the full version of the game. Gamers will not need to redownload the game after the beta. The start of official service of the next-gen version of Final Fantasy XIV will be announced on the Lodestone.

Final Fantasy XIV is available now for PC and PlayStation 4.
