Amazon Addresses Future of Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider Project

Despite Amazon's October layoffs, the Tomb Raider project between Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics remains in active development, according to a company-wide memo from Amazon. Though additional details about the next Tomb Raider game remain elusive, the news is encouraging in light of Amazon's recent news.

On October 28, Amazon announced it was laying off over 14,000 staff members across the board as part of an effort to "reduce bureaucracy" within the company. Amazon Games bore the brunt of Amazon's cuts, as its Irvine and San Diego studios would see significant staff reductions. Due to the staffing cuts at the Irvine studio, Amazon Games' MMORPG New World: Aeternum will no longer receive additional content updates. However, Amazon Games pledged to keep New World: Aeternum's servers available through 2026 and would notify users with a six-month notice prior to the game's servers shutting down.

While Amazon Games is shifting its focus toward Amazon Luna and other projects, its ongoing work with Crystal Dynamics will not go to waste.
