Publisher 11 bit studios and developer The Outer Zone have announced the release date for Death Howl during the Golden Joystick 2025 Awards. The soulslike deckbuilder is coming to PC (Steam) on December 9 and it's compatible with Steam Deck. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch versions are also in development, but they're scheduled for a 2026 release instead.

The Tale of a Grieving Mother

Death Howl follows Ro, a mother who has lost her child and refuses to accept this reality. Coming from a shamanic tribe, she decides to descend into the spirit world and look for a way to change things. For the sake of a second chance with her child, she's determined to fight her way through any foes.

In a minimalist style, the game promises to explore a metaphorical journey in which this mother must deal with the stages of loss. Death Howl draws inspiration from Scandinavian folklore while also discussing a heavy topic, showing Ro's grief and how she processes surviving and showing resilience towards the pain she's feeling.

As a huntress, she must study her enemies to survive the dangers, persevere, and move forward while also unearthing secrets in the process....
