Resident Evil's Surprise New Release Soars Past 2 Million Downloads

New mobile game Resident Evil Survival Unit has become a surprise hit, surpassing a major release milestone with over 2 million downloads. Survival Unit was released on November 18 via Google Play and the Apple App Store. Tying together decades of RE history with characters from across the franchise, it offers an alternate-universe look at a familiar story.

Now, Survival Unit has soared through the ranks, with over 2 million downloads in the ten days since its release, according to a joint statement by developers Aniplex Inc and Joycity Corporation (picked up by Eurogamer). At the time of writing, Survival Unit is also the 11th most-downloaded free game on Google Play, surpassing popular staples like Geometry Dash Lite and MapleStory Idle RPG.

With over 2 million downloads, it's safe to say RE Survival Unit is a commercial hit. Eurogamer points out that it's greatly surpassed even mainline Resident Evil sales on mobile platforms; ten days after its iOS release, Resident Evil 7 had been downloaded just 83,000 times.
