Metroid Prime 4 Beyond Gets Surprising Metacritic Score

It’s been a long road to get here… No, really, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond was first revealed at E3 2017, which was the first E3 that would show off the new Nintendo Switch titles. Since that announcement, the game has gone through a total reboot, more teases, delays, and then, it will get dual-launched on both the Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2...over eight years since that first trailer. Yeah, it’s been a long road. Yet, it’s here, and today, the first reviews dropped for the game…and while the Metacritic score is good, it might not be the score you think it will be.

For those who don’t recall, the original scores for the OG trilogy were 97, 92, and 90, respectively. Currently, the Metacritic score for Metroid Prime 4 Beyond is 81. That’s quite a drop, wouldn’t you say? It makes you wonder what led to such lower scores this go around.

After poking around the “mixed” reviews, I found that most of those reviewers felt that the game tried to “add too much” to stand out from what came before. Many critiqued certain open-world sections and pacing within the game.
