A number of senior developers have been let go from Eidos Montreal, the studio behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Tomb Raider (2013) and its sequels, and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. This is the second round of layoffs the studio has faced in 2025, as approximately 75 developers were let go in March.
A couple of resumés from those let go by Eidos were made publicly available, revealing a slate of cancelled projects including a dark fantasy ARPG, a sci-fi stealth game and a modern point-and-click game with turn-based combat. None of these projects will see the light of day, as Eidos focuses on finishing projects outsourced to the studio by Microsoft.
The sci-fi stealth game was likely a new instalment in the Deus Ex series, as Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported the studio was working on a new Deus Ex in 2022. However, this game was ultimately cancelled.
Since 2023, Eidos Montreal has been working on Grounded 2 and Fable, supporting Obsidian and Playground Games on their respective projects. According to Mike Straw of Insider Gaming, there are more layoffs planned at Eidos Montreal when the outsourced projects are concluded.
