With Geoff Keighley’s annual Game Awards scheduled for December 11, fans have less than a week until their hopes for what games will be announced are satisfied or dashed. 2026 is already shaping up to be quite spectacular regarding video game releases, including a seemingly deliberately clandestine Resident Evil 9, and at the peak of player hype and speculation is a cryptic Game Awards 2025 tease from Geoff Keighley himself.
Interestingly, while the prevailing theory had been that this Game Awards tease of an eerie monolith landmark could tease a new God of War game, Santa Monica’s Cory Barlog has since fled the woodwork to claim that it is unrelated to the epic mythology-trotting saga. Now, fuel has been added to the fire with an extension of this tease in what appears to be a redacted quote from the offical The Game Awards X account:
It’s presently unknown if this is a quote from an upcoming, currently unannounced game or a possible phrase/tagline that will be used for such a game’s pre-release marketing purposes. Either way, the quote doesn’t necessarily narrow down what game, franchise, or IP it could be alluding to:
