Metroid Prime 4 Slammed For Locking Key Music Feature Behind Paywall

Nintendo isn't known for microtransactions or paywalls, but the approach to one Metroid Prime 4: Beyond feature isn't winning many fans. For the most part, Metroid Prime 4 has been going over well, with praise for its gameplay, performance, and level design making up for criticisms of tone and overarching structure. Few, however, seem to be a fan of its approach to amiibo.

An X post from Luke Stephens summarizes the complaint, noting that a $29.99 amiibo purchase unlocks the ability to play and select music while driving around the game's desert.

Other users, like Joey Ferris, have clarified that it's also possible to unlock this feature by 100%ing the game's logbook scans, so it isn't a hard paywall. Even so, the decision isn't sitting well with many of the game's fans.

The amiibo necessary to unlock music in the desert is the Samus figure shown in Luke Stephens's post, not the bike amiibo that Joey Ferris mentions.

While there's technically a free way to unlock music in the desert, it doesn't remove the paywall around the first playthrough of the game. The free method can be a nice perk when replaying the game, but it doesn't ease initial...
