Rally games have been a favorite racing sub-genre of mine since Sega Rally '95, which blended a rally racing look with the fast-paced arcade racing of Sega's classics like Daytona USA, despite the real sport actually being a bit more like Outrun where your rival is the environment and time itself.
That series achieved more success with arcade and console sequels, but has still been dormant for the better part of twenty years -- leaving a hole in the market for those wanting something with an arcade-style vibe to it. Rallisport Challenge 1 and 2 came the closest at filling that void with many different racing types, but nothing has quite captured the spirit of either of those classic series.
Old School Rally offers up a blend of fast thrills and racing depth unlike a lot of rally racers on the market, even just out of early access. The core racing experience is very much an arcade-style affair, but with touchier controls than one might be used to. It's not quite a sim racer, but also not a simcade game because there isn't a lot to adjust.
