Steam Quietly Adds Hit 2012 RPG, Completely FREE To Download

Steam has a seemingly endless array of free games, but most of them aren't RPGs. When they are, they're usually filled with the most complex monetization tactics known to man, boasting gacha systems and in-game currencies galore. The latest free RPG addition, however, is a little more straightforward.

Inotia 4, a free mobile RPG from 2012, quietly landed on Steam on December 8. Developed and published by Com2uS, Inotia 4 tells the intertwined stories of an assassin and a saint in an expansive fantasy world. The Inotia series follows an anthology format similar to franchises like Final Fantasy, so playing previous games before Inotia 4 is entirely unnecessary.

Inotia 4 was already a success on mobile platforms over a decade ago, and its popularity wasn't unfounded. At a time when most great mobile games were built around simple gameplay loops and limited scope, the Inotia series represented a level of ambition that was hard to match. Charming character sprites and interesting stories tapped into classic JRPG magic, paired with an action combat system that played well on touchscreens.
