Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is being remastered.

During Nintendo's E3 Nintendo Direct presentation, it was announced that Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is receiving a remaster (via Polygon). The remaster of Maiden of Black Water will come with costumes that were not part of the original Wii U release. It will also come with a brand new photo mode. The game will also receive updated visuals. It is unknown if the secret costumes that were a part of the Wii U version of Maiden of Black Water will also be making their way over to the remastered version of the game.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is the fifth mainline title in the Fatal Frame series. The game was originally released for the Wii U back in 2014. Much like its predecessors, Maiden of Black Water focuses on supernatural experiences and hauntings. Characters are equipped with the Camera Obscura, which is a special camera that allows players to ward off and capture spirits, and allows them to witness supernatural occurrences. The Camera Obscura is the only line of defense that gamers will have as they explore a world haunted by hostile spirits.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is made up of three interconnected stories that converge to uncover the truth behind a recent string of deaths in a forest haunted by a history of suicides. Players will explore the ruins of an eerie inn, a shrine filled with life-size dolls, and a lake full of dead priestesses. Each location is connected by a stream of water that flows throughout the mountain. This once holy water is tied to the darkest mystery of all: the history of death and darkness on Mt. Hikami.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is available now for the Wii U. The game will come to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and the Nintendo Switch sometime this year.
