Genshin Impact Meets Assassin's Creed Black Flag In Huge New Free RPG

Aside from a focus on open-world exploration, Genshin Impact and Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag don't have much in common. Genshin Impact reshaped the fantasy gacha game market, while Black Flag still stands apart as possibly the last great triumph of piratical adventures. Surprisingly, however, a new game might be the perfect combination of both.

Set for release in 2026, Sea of Remnants promises a seafaring RPG experience. The original press release from NetEase Games confirmed that Sea of Remnants will be free-to-play, and the "300+ companions" mentioned on the Steam page suggests a character gacha system similar to Genshin Impact. In this case, those allies are all "puppetfolk", giving them a unique cartoon appearance in a less anime-inspired setting.

Well ahead of its launch, the scope of Sea of Remnants is already apparent. Screenshots, trailers, and gameplay footage have all emphasized the breadth and visual variety of the world, which is connected by more than just a static transportation system. The Steam page promises "unpredictable seas and dynamic weather" to make journeys memorable, indicating that this won't be another Starfield situation.
