The Last of Us Director Announces "Intimate" Puzzle-Platformer Coven of the Chicken Foot | TechRaptor

The Last of Us director Bruce Straley and his studio Wildflower Interactive have announced Coven of the Chicken Foot, a "companion-driven" puzzle-platformer that takes an affectionately satirical look at fantasy tropes.

Revealed during The Game Awards, Coven of the Chicken Foot sees players assuming the role of Gertie, an elderly witch who must build a bond with a "peculiar creature" in order to "fulfil an oath". If you can imagine The Last Guardian by way of Baby Steps, then you're at least part of the way there.

According to Straley and Wildflower Interactive, Coven of the Chicken Foot is set in a "stylized world that winks at the tropes of traditional fantasy adventures" in which you'll need to "reconsider who the real 'heroes' are, and how easily stories shift when told from the margins".

Straley and Wildflower describe Gertie as an unconventional hero; she won't be "swinging swords or double-jumping her way past dangers", the two say. 

Instead, she'll need to rely on her companion, which Straley and his studio describe as a "dynamic, responsive creature that reacts and evolves its abilities and motivations throughout the player’s experience".
