Forget About Becoming A Hero, Fable Fans Just Want To Be Landlords

We finally got gameplay footage and a release window for Playground Games' Fable during last night's Xbox Developer Direct. Releasing sometime in Autumn 2026, the game will feature a massive open world, a customisable protagonist, a giant Richard Ayoade, but unfortunately, no canine companion.

We saw a Cocatrice, Hobs, and a bunch of magical abilities, but the most fantastical part of the game is that it lets you become a landlord. The showcase revealed that you can buy properties and businesses across Albion; in fact you can buy every bit of property if you're successful enough and become a landlord. It seems fans are looking forward to this feature more than anything else.

Fable fans, and even newbies like me, are buzzing at all the things revealed during the gameplay showcase. But the ability to buy property, rent it out, and even evict tenants seems to be all that everyone can talk about. Sure, it's missing the iconic feature where the protagonist's appearance changes according to their actions, but who needs that when you've got rent money coming into your pockets.
