Decades later, the freewheeling fantasy of the original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy still stands apart, but an upcoming RPG might finally recapture some of what made it so special. Sea of Remnants, developed by Joker Studio and published by NetEase Games, combines Pirates of the Caribbean's piratical fever dream with the stylish RPG presentation of the Persona games, and the results look promising.
In a preview event for Sea of Remnants attended by Screen Rant, the game's creative director offered some details that should catch the attention of Pirates of the Caribbean fans. For one, the "end of the world" appears in-game, although I doubt multiple Jacks will be running around the place. Like Pirates of the Caribbean, it's also focused on building a setting that isn't beholden to human history, with a "unique sea" rather than "one that can directly make you think of something that you have read in books."
As for Persona, the turn-based combat bears more than a passing resemblance to the eminent RPG series. Sea of Remnants features its own mechanical approach, to be clear, but the dynamic menus and stylish effects bring Atlus RPG hits to mind. At sea, Sea of Remnants...
