The addition of Alex to Street Fighter 6's World Tour has given us more context on the origin of the character, as we get a glimpse into the childhood of the professional wrestler.
Alex lost his parents when he was just a child, and was subsequently taken in by a friend of his father, Tom. We already knew about this connection, but Street Fighter 6 added that Tom was "a cousin of my mom and a sparring buddy of my dad."
This seems like a strange addendum, especially given the future of Alex's romantic life. However, fans speculate that this was done for realism's sake, since Japanese orphans are far more likely to end up living with a relative of their parents rather than an unrelated family friend (thanks, Automaton).
