Xbox Has Delayed Fable To Avoid GTA6 Launch, Leaker Claims

Xbox's long-awaited new Fable has had a lengthy road from its 2020 announcement to its alleged 2026 release, and while the '26 target remains somewhat secure, it might not be coming until the very end of the year. Why? Grand Theft Auto 6. Why else, I suppose.

That inevitable behemoth of a pop culture event—especially its online component—has been scaring publishers off of firm calendar dates for over a year at this point. Each time it's delayed, someone breathes a sigh of relief, and several someone elses collectively scramble to alter the launch course. It's wild.

In any case, Rockstar's shadow looms large over Albion, per reliable insider Jeff Grubb.

It's welcome news that Grubb notes that Playground Games' and Xbox Game Studios' Fable revival is still shooting for 2026. And who knows. Maybe a push all the way to mid-late December will provide time for just the extra layer of polish that will be needed to turn Fable into a must-buy the way the series once was, decades in the past.
