It's been a little over four months since Nagoshi Studios revealed Gang of Dragon at The Game Awards, but during that time, the game's future has already been thrown into complete chaos.

That's mostly due to the game's struggles to receive funding. Last month, it was reported that Gang of Dragon backer NetEase had ended up pulling funding for the game after it was told that Nagoshi Studios would need an additional ¥7 billion (roughly $44.4 million) to actually finish development. That figure had clearly spooked NetEase, leaving Nagoshi Studios treading water and in need of a new backer.

Of course, a backer pulling funding for a game isn't inherently the death of the project, as it's possible that another big publisher out there could pick it up and save Nagoshi's bacon. Gang of Dragon was high-profile enough to snag a world premiere trailer at The Game Awards after all, and we know that those spots don't come cheap.

Toshihiro Nagoshi once brought the Yakuza series to life, and now his new project is in jeopardy.
