Call Of Duty Is Finally Leaving Last-Gen Behind

The next Call of Duty title, long-rumored to be another entry in the Modern Warfare subseries with a rumored release for October, will not be coming to last-gen consoles, the franchise has revealed on social media.

Following rumors over the weekend that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, the presumed title of the 2026 entry in the franchise, was being playtested on PlayStation 4 consoles, COD has come out in front and set the record straight once and for all.

That would mean that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, last year's entry, will serve as the final last-gen title for the PS4 and Xbox One, following several years in which Call of Duty released on both current-gen and last-gen hardware.

For reference, the last Call of Duty title on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 hardware was Black Ops 3, a severely trimmed down version that only bundled the multiplayer suite. That title released in 2015, just two years after the PS4 and Xbox One line of consoles had launched.

The franchise experienced three cross-gen games between the PS3/Xbox 360 and PS4/Xbox One in the form of Ghosts, Advanced Warfare and Black Ops...
