Take-Two Boss Defends GTA 6 Skipping PC At Launch

Grand Theft Auto 6 is poised to be one of the biggest game launches of all time, both culturally and commercially. So, many of us were surprised to see that Rockstar and Take-Two are sticking to their usual strategy of only launching on console at first, before porting the game to PC at a later date. Is that not just leaving money on the table?

According to Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick, this isn't the case at all. Rather, he argues it just makes way more sense for Rockstar to put all of its time and effort into getting the console versions of GTA 6 running smoothly before considering PC, because that's where its audience is.

Speaking with Bloomberg, Zelnick commented on this unique strategy of skipping PC at launch.

"Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that, you're judged by serving the core," he says. "If your core consumer isn't there, if they're not served first and best, you kind of don't hit your other consumers."

He also denied that this console-first approach was part of any exclusivity deal: "Historically, Rockstar's gone to console first."
