Nintendo Announces A "New" Star Fox Game That's Just Star Fox 64 Again

There are three certainties in life: Death, taxes, and Star Fox 64 living on.

After much speculation, we’re getting a new Star Fox game in the year of our lord 2026 for the Nintendo Switch 2. Of course, by new, I mean another remake and reimagination of Star Fox 64, which itself is a remake/reboot of the original Star Fox for the Super Nintendo.

The surprise announcement came out of the blue. Literally; Nintendo announced the thing with a 6 PM Eastern Star Fox Direct on a random Wednesday evening in May with zero heads-up.

To Nintendo’s credit, they’re enhancing Star Fox with a “cinematic take” (their words) on the iconic Nintendo 64 classics. This includes new voice acting, dialogue, and cutscenes. Beyond that, there’s the addition of challenge modes, online 4v4 battles, and more.

Star Fox will also take advantage of Nintendo Switch 2 features, including the Joy-Con 2’s mouse controls. You’ll also be able to split the Joy-Con 2 controller with a friend and have one person pilot the Arwing while the other uses the ship’s weapons as a gunner.
