Dragon Quest 12 News May Finally Be Imminent As Horii Sets 40th Anniversary Livestream

Do you happen to recall when Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate was revealed? May 2021. That's five years ago this month. And it happened rather early, given what we can now plainly see was a very early stage of development, because visionary creator Yuji Horii and his peers wished to unveil the next mainline title in honor of Dragon Quest's 35th anniversary.

Half a decade later, and a 40th-anniversary livestream has been announced. Much like the 35th-anniversary livestream dropped the game's subtitle and such, there's a high chance that we'll finally get our first actual information on The Flames of Fate in all this time.

But let's be clear—there's a slim chance we won't.

On the latest episode of the KosoKoso broadcast, Yuji Horii let slip that a 40th anniversary stream is indeed imminent, as the epic franchise hits the four-decade mark on May 27. But that episode has since gone private. Perchance Horii-san was not expressly permitted to spill the beans on that ahead of any formal announcement from Square Enix.
