Star Wars Battlefront 2 was mired in controversy at launch over its predatory lootboxes and painstaking grind to unlock heroes, shackling the game with a reputation that would take more patience than Yoda to claw back from — lest we forget the EA Community Team holding the record for most-downvoted comment in Reddit history. Truly, rockbottom (or, I guess, hurled into a Rancor Pit bottom. Not as catchy). Yet, miraculously, DICE won back the community with a redemption arc rivaling Darth Vader's, to the point where fans are still petitioning for support to resume.

The game set a new all-time concurrent peak player count in 2025 of 35,892 players amid a major campaign to revive Battlefront 2.

While that's exceedingly unlikely with EA funneling every major studio onto Battlefield 6, forming the Battlefield Studios coalition, which then suffered layoffs despite overshadowing Call of Duty last year, it hasn't dented the game's momentum. Not only did Battlefront 2 enjoy a major boost on May 4, but players are now rallying together to repopulate the servers for the community-led Resurgence Day on May 23.
