Dead Space 4 Will Never Happen Because The Numbers "Aren't There" For Horror Games

Former Dead Space writer and producer Chuck Beaver doesn't believe Dead Space 4 will ever happen, despite the passion of fans of the series.

In an interview with FRVR, the Electronic Arts veteran (now back at the company as a senior writer following 13 years away) gave his brutally honest thoughts about the prospects of another Dead Space game being released.

According to Beaver, "the numbers aren't there" for horror games despite Dead Space's "fervent fan base." He believes this is especially true given the staggering cost of modern triple-A game development, which has ballooned in recent years following sharp cost of living increases in development hotspots (resulting in the need for higher salaries), among other economic factors.

"Horror games have a bit of a ceiling, you know, and I think the number back in Frank Gibeau's [former EA vice president] day was 5 million units to keep us going on Dead Space," he explained. "I think the number is like 15 million units now, given the cost of things."
