Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter was probably my GOTY for 2025, or at minimum, a runner-up for it. A modernized spin on the one that started it all, with terrific character designs that bring Estelle Bright and friends to life for a new generation, 1st Chapter does everything right. I was glad to get confirmation from the game's very own ending that the sequel—which might still be the very best Trails game of them all—is getting a remake of its own in 2026.
The question hung in the air from the first, of course, as to whether Trails in the Sky's remake(s) would herald further fare for other older Trails titles. That means Trails in the Sky's half-spinoff third game, as well as Crossbell's Trails from Zero/Trials to Azure duology, and arguably even the first two Trails of Cold Steel games. Basically, everything that was either 2D or near enough to it.
We don't have an answer on that score just yet, but given developer Nihon Falcom's posted financials, it's looking pretty likely.
