Expect A Lengthy Cross-Gen Era For Nintendo Switch And Switch 2

Don't expect support for the Nintendo Switch to fall by the wayside as its Switch 2 successor enters into its second year on the market. In a recent earnings call, Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa recommitted to the aging workhorse for the foreseeable future.

But that might not be so bad even for us Switch 2 adoptees. After all, we've already seen several big-name Switch 2 exclusives, so it's not like Nintendo is holding back the possible horsepower on account of the OG. In that sense, keeping that support going for those who can't yet afford a Switch 2, or would prefer to hold off on such a big purchase until there's more software that appeals to them, makes a ton of sense.

As Nintendo Patents Watch helpfully tweeted, Furukawa and the rest of the company are prepped and ready to go for a cross-gen phase that could certainly last for another couple of years. Stressing the importance of "expanding the entire software business" rather than merely fixating on the Nintendo Switch 2, Furukawa's transcript notes that 40 percent of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream players were on the newer system, leaving six out of every ten players hitting up...
