Nintendo has made another surprise announcement: it's returning to the mobile gaming market in May 2026 with Pictonico, a photo-based minigame collection in the same vein as WarioWare.
Nintendo had previously attempted to break into the mobile market during the 3DS/Wii U era, with experimental titles like Miitomo, and adaptations of existing works, like Mario Kart Tour. Many of these games have since been discontinued, with Nintendo seemingly focusing on its console endeavors.
It seems that Nintendo wants to take another crack at the smart device market, as the official Nintendo UK Twitter/X account has announced Pictonico, a mobile game that uses the player's photos as interactive elements for minigames that are similar to the ones seen in the WarioWare series.

Pictonico is a free-to-start game that's launching on Android and iOS devices on May 28, 2026, with pre-registration opening today. The exact nature of the monetization is currently unknown at this time, but it will likely involve unlocking new games.
