Minecraft Is Finally Getting The Aether Dimension On Console

Minecraft mods and viral videos would often get conflated with in-game urban legends in the early days. As a kid, my friends and I were utterly convinced that Herobrine was lurking in the woods, watching us erect a shoddy cobblestone shack, and that we could summon him with a shrine of gold and netherrack. But perhaps the most enticing myth of all was the Aether, a hidden dimension reached through a glowstone portal.

In reality, the Aether was a mod released in 2011 that added a Heaven-like dimension to parallel the Nether, but it was so popular and so well-made that lead developer Brandon "kingbdogz" Pearce was hired by Mojang to work on the game in an official capacity. Unfortunately, the dimension itself didn't follow suit, and the mod never left the confines of Java, aside from pale imitations like 'Ether.' That all changes today.
