The long-awaited return of Fable has been looming over this entire console generation. The series' fourth mainline entry was announced alongside the Xbox Series X and S consoles, and over the intervening six years has only produced infrequent trailers and gameplay. Developer Playground Games has just recently shipped the excellent open-world racer Forza Horizon 6, so hitting a second deadline this year with Fable is quite ambitious, but new updates on its release have assuaged concerns of another delay.
On May 21, Playground Games made a post on LinkedIn promoting open positions at the development house, mentioning "the incredible launch of Forza Horizon 6," but also noting that the studio is "not done yet." Playground Games then reiterates that Fable is on track to release in 2026: "With Fable coming later this year, we’re continuing to recruit across multiple disciplines to bring more exceptional talent into the team." This is the first official word on its release since Fable headlined January 2026's Xbox Developer Direct, where the game was given its Fall 2026 launch window.
