2026 is shaping up to be a pretty big year for Valve and Steam. The Steam Deck is still a monster success despite hardware shortages, and we recently got the brilliant new controller. Of course, Steam's brand-new controller is merely the warm-up act for the main event: The Steam Machine.
Gamers have been waiting for months now for more details on when exactly the Steam Machine will launch and, perhaps more importantly, how much the hardware will cost. Given the recent GPU price increases that are impacting the entire video game industry, the Steam Machine price remains entirely up in the air. Now, a new leak appears to have shed some more light on the subject. Just be warned, it's not pretty.
As spotted by Vice, dataminers recently found a bunch of new information hidden in an update to the Steam hardware reservation system.
According to Steam Tracker, Valve added code for a product that could cost “thousand” or “thousands” of Euros. Now, this could be a reference to the Steam Frame, Valve's upcoming new VR headset, but given it the reference was specifically found in relation to the Steam Machine, it seems unlikely.
