The Lord of the Rings is probably the most valuable fantasy franchise in the world, spawning countless movies, shows, games, and supplementary texts to create a world that really is like no other at this point. Tolkien's works are still the foundational texts for any self-respecting creator entering the genre to this day, and replicating even a portion of that success should have you set for life.
In the world of video games, we also had some very cool news recently, when it was confirmed that Kingdom Come developer Warhorse Studios were the developer behind the upcoming LotR open-world RPG. That's on the way at some point quite a lot further down the road, but we have also now had confirmation of another release in the franchise that resurrects a legendary board game from the turn of the millennium.
Over on the Restoration Games website, the board game developer released a statement confirming the 2027 release of The Lord of the Rings: The King’s Gambit. This is a resurrection of the beloved (and genuinely brilliant) game from 2000, Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit, which brought the battles from The Phantom Menace to life.
