As all gamers know, voice acting is an art and is the reason why so many iconic voices remain memorable to this day. That is the case for Darth Vader, who is remembered for his voice just as much as his appearance in the Star Wars franchise. Originally voiced by James Earl Jones, who voiced the iconic villain until his retirement back in 2022, it is his replacement that has caused discourse amongst the fandom.
Over the years, and in the various Star Wars video games that have been released, actors Scott Lawrence and Matt Sloan have lent their voice to Darth Vader, mimicking the iconic performance of Earl Jones, whilst also putting their own spin on it.
However, it was back in 2024 that it was revealed that, before his death, Earl Jones gave Lucasfilm permission to immortalize his voice using AI for shows such as Obi-Wan Kenobi. As you can imagine, this news did not go down well with a lot of fans, with one user over on r/MauLer saying, "Because Matt Sloan and Scott Lawrence or a new voice actor just isn’t an option.
