It's no exaggeration to say that The Wheel of Time is one of the most important works of fantasy produced in the wake of The Lord of the Rings. This is why it was so shocking that, despite the franchise's storied legacy, Prime Video canceled its big-budget live-action series after 3 seasons. Though the reasons for that series' cancellation are complex, it's disappointing that Robert Jordan's world and characters won't get to see their conclusion play out in live-action anytime soon.
Still, while Prime Video is unlikely to resurrect the series, not all is lost for dedicated Wheel of Time fans. As revealed in an article by Polygon, The Wheel of Time's next major release is going to be War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time, a board game made by Dire Wolf with the blessing of Robert Jordan's estate.
The Kickstarter campaign for War of the Dragon, launched on May 27th, was met with a warm reception. At the time of writing, the board game had already howled past its $50,000 goal, and is currently sitting at a hefty sum of more than $240,000.
