Cyberpunk 2077 fans have been waiting patiently for news from developers at CD Projekt Red regarding the next mainline game, codenamed "Project Orion." Updates have been few and far between since the project was officially confirmed, which makes sense given CDPR is in deep development for the upcoming release of The Witcher 4, slated to launch in 2027.
Details about the official Cyberpunk 2077 sequel are still pretty sparse, though it's confirmed that the game is officially in pre-production as of 2025, and CD Projekt Red said the project completed its conceptual phase and moved into early development planning. It's also been confirmed that, unlike the original game that was developed in the proprietary REDengine, the sequel is being built in Unreal Engine 5, a move that has been somewhat controversial among fans.
