The fantasy genre really is the gift that keeps giving across all different forms of media, whether it's in big budget films, or sprawling 80+ hour video games. The first that pops to mind for most right-thinking people is The Lord of the Rings, with Tolkien's masterful epic serving as an influence on basically everything that has cropped up in the genre since.

That led to a ton of other brilliant works in their own right, but arguably the biggest of those in 2026 is George RR Martin's Game of Thrones series. Much of that is down to the HBO adaptation, while fans of the franchise remain pretty poorly served in the video game department. That doesn't look like it's going to change right now, but there are growing calls from the community for someone to really seize the day and bring Westeros to life once again.
