Wizards of the Coast has reportedly greenlit remakes of Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. Both remakes are assumed to be in development at once, meaning both could launch around the same time.
That is according to sources speaking with PC Gamer. Here, PC Gamer says it has knowledge of the Baldur's Gate 2 remake, and says this likely means a Baldur's Gate 1 remake is in development alongside it, as BG2 is a direct sequel. It's claimed that the project is being led by Kevin Martens, who was a lead designer on the original Baldur's Gate 2.
The first Baldur's Gate launched in 1998, and Baldur's Gate 2 in 2000. Both were developed by BioWare before the studio moved on to KOTOR, and then its own IPs like Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
Now, PC Gamer says it has learned that both are getting the remake treatment. The report focuses more on the Baldur's Gate 2 remake, which is the one said to be led by Kevin Martens. It's unclear if he would also be working on a remake of the first game.
While the report assumes that the first game is getting a remake...
