Following the debut of the Final Fantasy 7 Revelation trailer at Summer Game Fest last night, Square Enix officially confirmed suspicions that Tyler Hoechlin has been recast for the trilogy's final installment.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi stated in an interview with prominent fighting game streamer Maximilian Doodthat scheduling conflicts prevented Hoechlin from reprising his role as Sephiroth, with veteran voice actor Travis Willingham now stepping into the role.

"Oh, you realized?" Hamaguchi said, via a translator. "So, yes, the former voice actor that was doing the voice for Sephiroth was unable to [return] in this one, so we do have a new voice actor."

A highly prolific figure in the industry, Travis Willingham is best known for his work as Phenomaman in Dispatch, Raiden in the newer Mortal Kombat games, Wilson Fisk in Insomniac's Spider-Man, Jaro Tapal in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and fittingly, like George Newbern and Hoechlin before him, for playing Superman.

Willingham is also no stranger to the franchise, having provided additional voices for both the Final Fantasy 7 remake and the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy, and for portraying Ryid in Type-0 HD, Volg in Chocobo's Dungeon, and Aced in Kingdom Hearts 3.
