Ninja Theory Confirms It's No Longer Working On Project Mara

Ninja Theory—best known for the Hellblade series—has ceased production on its experimental horror game Project Mara to focus on developing the third game in its flagship series.

This was reported by Jez Corden of Windows Central back in January, but with the announcement of Senua (Hellblade 3), Ninja Theory studio head Dom Matthews confirmed the cancellation in a post on Xbox Wire regarding Senua's announcement.

"With the fact we have the entire team working on [Senua], I suspect some people might ask what's happened to Project Mara," writes Matthews. "I took the decision to not work on that any further. These decisions are never easy, but I did so to take the opportunity to have all of the talent and expertise in the studio, all 85 creatives, working together to realise the potential of what Senua could be."

Project Mara was announced in 2020 through a brief teaser video, with the explicit objective of being a "real-world and grounded representation of mental terror, based on real lived experience accounts and in-depth research with the aim of recreating the horrors of the mind as accurately and realistically as possible."
